Ross had fever on sunday and monday evening… prior to that, we heard advises from lots of pple that Ross may have ‘Mao Dan’ but cos he was tested for bacteria infection, we didnt really do anything about it. Only on Monday, MIL finally decided to use an hard boiled egg to see if it is really ‘Mao Dan’… well she said that the inner egg turned black, but i was skeptical cos if the egg is overcooked, it may have a greenish layer… =P
However, after using the egg, Ross fever didnt return and was feeling better… another lady told us that the hard boiled egg is very good when bb is sick cos it helps to remove ‘wind’, ‘bad qi or energy’ from the body…
For those who wanna try, my MIL method was to boil an egg till it is hard ( have to be hard cos will be difficult to rub if it is not), peel the outer shell, wrap the egg with a blue towel or hanky if possible and rubbed all over the body… starting from the heard and downwards… the egg have to be warm and the towel or handy not too thick… open the egg and see if the yoke turns black or have strands of hair in it… My colleague’s version is that her mum will put an ancient coin in the egg and the coin will turn colour if the person is sick or have ‘Mao Dan’…
Disclaimer: I am not sure how effective this method is, but it’s just using a hard boiled egg, thus no harm trying… but nothing beats seeing a pead if the bb fever is high and persistant… Fever in babies is NO JOKE, sponge the bb on the forehead, neck, arm pit and groins… apparently according to my Chinese colleague, these are the accupunture points where the energy is flowing in the body… once the neck, arm pit and groins are cool, then fever wont travel up the head too much…

It works! Amazing but true, my grandma tried it on Elaine when she yet to recover fully from HFMD, she was cranky and nothing seems to please her. Glad to hear that Ross is getting better
BM:
Ya… my colleague is laughing about the old wives’ tale… but no harm trying lah… =P his appetite is better too… LMCB
Just passing by. Was checking up on the coin in egg method. It works really. it also tells you what the person is affected by. I know different color means different things..
BM:
wah… that’s cool… hehehe… thanks!
It is hear-say and old wives’ tale. I was tolds by this old lady that her husband died from “Mao Dan” with feathers sticking out from her chest during the Japanese Occupation when medical aids were not available. It was believed that those were chicken feathers and one should abstain from taking chicken or rice. If one were to bathe in a solution of chicken blood with a face towel, one will be able to wash out fathers from the body. Ensure that this procedure is conducted in an enclosed space to prevent external wind from harming the body. Take cooling herbal concortion at the same time and that was how one cured themselves of “Mao Dan”.
Rolling a hard boiled egg is only done as a pre-diagnostic test to confirm if one is down with “Mao Dan”. It is belived that one will be able to find foreign bodies of feathers or hair in the egg. Once confirmed, seek Chinese Medical Practitioner who knows how to cure “Mao Dan”. No point going to the hospital.
Years back, my sister’s colleague was warded at SGH for persistent fever of 40C. with no sign of it improving and no reason found. She took a packet of “Mao Dan” powder which I kept in reserve for the family and gave it to him. He was discharged the very next day.
I obtained the “Mao Dan” powder from the Chinese Medical Hall in Dover Road Market. They pride themselves as the specialist in Mao Dan with the age old formula passed down from their ancestor. S$2.00 a packet. The course is 3 packets at 3 hourly interval. They are very discreet when dispensing and ask a lot of questions before selling. Only for genuine cases of persistent fever when hospitalisation cannot manage. They want to see the patient face to face before selling.
It is June 2009. This shop is affected by enblock, May not be around by 2010.
Ammendment: feathers sticking out from his chest not her chest. apology
